Reason Why You Must Enable Your Sim Password

WHY YOU MUST ALWAYS ENABLE YOUR SIM PIN

We have forgotten the importance enabling pin on our sim cards especially the one we use in registering our BVN (Bank Verification Number) w now put more Importance in locking our phone and WhatsApp application forgetting that we have left a loophole which is the sim card. Before the arrival of the smartphone (Android, Apple and Window phones) in those days when the sim is more expensive than the phone itself we place so much value on the pin and the puk number, but now that sim cards are cheap and we can even afford to buy 50 at a go, we have forgotten to be security conscious not knowing that it is now that we have to be more security-conscious and always enable our pin.
Now that sim cards are linked with bank details, e-mail address, loan application and so much more, we have to always enable the pin because anything might happen. people complain of their phone being stolen and not only that money are being transferred from their account to another without a single trace and at the end of the day the banks won’t do anything.

IMPORTANCE OF THE SIM PIN

Restricted Access to Your Contact: if they are stored on the sim memory: sim card has a little bit of memory up to 123kb that can store contact and few messages, when the sim is locked and the phone is stolen, the thief who has stolen the phone won’t be able to steal your contact information or defraud them pretending to be you.
Restricted Access to Bank Information: If the sim that was stolen is what was used for your bank verification and is locked the person who stole the sim won’t be able to carry out a fraudulent activity on that sim, like using the sim to collect loan on your behalf. Don’t be surprised you can now use your mobile number that was used to register BVN to collect loan without collateral and that is why some customer complain that some amount of money has been deducted from their account without their knowledge and also they won’t be able to wire out your money since the sim is locked.
Account Balance Is Well Protected: To those people that do have a huge amount of airtime on their mobile phone this would help them keep it till when they retrieve their sim and will also serve as evidence when they are being questioned by the service provided during the sim retrieval process.
Note: majority of phone users are always having a password on their phone, so when a phone is stolen the person who stole it might probably switch off the phone first so when he/she want to power it on the sim pin will always pop up which is useless to them and in the process of wiping your device, the information on the phone too is going along with it.
